Textbook
Williams Massage Mastery: From Student to Professional 1st Edition, Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins
Course Description
This course covers the key areas addressed in a comprehensive massage program. The study is broken into Part 1 Theory focus and Part 2 Technique and application focus. The instructor will guide the student to focus on the elements that are essential for the professional massage therapist. Although the instructor is in agreement with much of the opinions of the author of Massage Mastery, there are areas that the student will receive additions and or corrections. The study of massage theory in comparison to the other subjects taught at MTI allows the instructor greater personal and original input and latitude of opinion than do the harder sciences such as A&P, Kinesiology and Pathology.
Objectives
To give student’s the tools necessary to become great massage therapist’s.
Practical Exam
A high priority will be given to assessing the student’s ability to perform the techniques and procedures studied in massage theory. One on one instructor demonstration and student assessment will take place during Saturday and Sunday classes. A pass/fail grade will be given to the student for practical application of technique and procedures. The student will pass the course when he or she has successfully applied the techniques and procedures.

ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY
Applied Anatomy and Physiology for Manual Therapists
Hours (kinesiology is included in these hours)
190 hours
Prerequisites
Students of pathology will study anatomy/physiology with pathology
Textbook
Applied Anatomy and Physiology for Manual Therapists: Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins, 2013
Course Description
The emphasis on anatomy (structure) and physiology (function) gives the massage therapist a balanced education with all the necessary ingredients for a successful career in massage therapy.
The text is clear, accurate, comprehensive, and student-friendly, and emphasizes the anatomy and physiology information that students need to know in order to understand the benefits, effects, indications, and contraindications of manual therapy. The text book presents knowledge in an accessible manner, aimed at engaging with students, who often struggle with retaining A&P knowledge from education to clinic.
Because it's designed for manual therapy students, Applied Anatomy & Physiology for Manual Therapists includes detailed information that is typically not included in standard A&P texts, such as a full chapter on neuromuscular and myofascial conditions. The instructors past and current experience applying massage as guided by a sound understanding of anatomy and physiology provides an invaluable learning experience.

KINESIOLOGY
Trail Guide to the Body: A hands-on guide to locating muscles, bones and more
Hours
Hours included with Anatomy & Physiology
Prerequisites
This course must be taken in conjunction with anatomy & physiology.
Textbook
Trail Guide to the Body 4th Edition: Books Of Discovery 2010
Course Description
Kinesiology, also known as human kinetics, is the scientific study of human movement. Kinesiology addresses physiological, mechanical, and psychological mechanisms. Since the massage therapist spends more time than almost any other medical practitioner searching through and working the soft tissues of the body, this subject matter is given emphasis. This course will give the massage therapist the ability to palpate the tissues and assess dysfunction or injury. The scholastic portion of the class includes memorization of origin, insertion, action and innervation of many muscles while the hands-on portion enables the student to palpate the tissues in the living body.

Hours
65 hours
Prerequisites
Students of pathology will study anatomy/physiology with pathology
Textbook
Werner, R. A Massage Therapist’s Guide to Pathology, 5e. Baltimore: Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins, 2013
Course Description
Understand pathologies with the goal of being able to make informed decisions about the safety and applicability of massage modalities. Develop critical thinking skills to be able to find information independently, and to identify the variables that contribute to informed decisions.
Objectives
See chapter objectives at the beginning of each chapter. Apply these as appropriate for the content you select.

NEUROMUSCULAR CERTIFICATION COURSE
At the completion of this 70 hour course you will be awarded a certificate, certifying you as a neuromuscular therapist. These hours are included under the "Massage Theory Application" hours. Michael Eayrs is certified by the NMT Center, St. Petersburg, Florida as a certified school instructor. You will be eligible to use the NMT acronym after your name when you aquire state licensure and enter professional practice.
WHAT IS NEUROMUSCULAR THERAPY?
NMT is a thorough program of recovery from acute and chronic pain syndromes which utilizes specific massage therapy, flexibility stretching, and home care to eliminate the causes of most neuromuscular pain patterns. This specific and scientific approach to muscular pain relief will help to bring about balance between the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system. NMT enhances the function of joints, muscles and biomechanics (movement) and it releases endorphins, the body's own natural pain killers. It can be part of a comprehensive program, complementing all other health care modalities.
Neuromuscular Therapy examines six physiological factors which may create or intensify pain patterns.
- Ischmia
- Trigger Points
- Nerve Entrapment/Compression
- Postural Distortions
- Nutrition
- Emotional Well Being
